Sohan Dasgupta - Leader in Law, Trade, and National Security
Dr. Sohan Dasgupta is an attorney, international law scholar, and government executive whose career spans senior leadership in law, international trade, national security, and economic statecraft. He has advised and represented clients in complex matters before the U.S. Supreme Court, federal appellate courts, government agencies, Congress, and state legislatures.
Dr. Dasgupta’s public service includes senior leadership positions at the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, where he served as Assistant Secretary for Trade and Economic Security and Deputy General Counsel. In these capacities, he addressed consequential matters involving international trade, foreign investment risk management, supply-chain priorities, Team Telecom, and national security. He previously served as Special Counsel at the U.S. Department of Education.
Sohan Dasgupta subsequently led the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC), a U.S. government agency with approximately 300 personnel and a $5.8 billion budget. As political head of the corporation, Dr. Dasgupta focused on strengthening institutional functions and advancing its mission at the intersection of international economic development and economic statecraft.
Dr. Dasgupta holds a J.D. from the University of California, Berkeley, School of Law, where he was elected to the Order of the Coif; a Ph.D. from the University of Cambridge; an M.Sc. from the University of Oxford; and a B.A. from Columbia University. Beyond his professional pursuits, he enjoys traveling, collecting antiques, and visiting historical sites.
